We seek cooperation within a research consortium to advance industrial photobioreactors (PBRs). This includes partnerships for enhancing our existing PBR with innovative technologies, as well as exploring the capture of industrial exhaust gases (currently fermentation gases) using biomass in PBRs. Together with biologically oriented research partners, we aim to develop novel concepts for microalgae utilisation. We contribute extensive expertise in AI and machine learning for classifying algae quality and growth.
Our demonstrator system enables PCF calculations and CO₂e measurements. We continuously collect and analyse process data (pH, dissolved CO₂, temperature, etc.) and are developing AI-based methods for biomass estimation using low-cost sensors and microscopy image labelling. These capabilities form the basis for new approaches to bioprocess monitoring, CO₂ valorisation, and sustainable production.
RIF Institute for Research and Transfer e.V. is a German non-profit research organisation specialising in applied industrial research and technology transfer. Our focus areas include digitalisation, AI in manufacturing and process industries, sustainable production systems, and the development of demonstrators for industry-oriented innovation. We combine interdisciplinary expertise in engineering, data science, and process optimisation to bridge the gap between research and industrial application.
