4. Using renewable resources for industry
We are interested in cooperations dealing with technology assessment and evaluation. We are specialized in bioeconomy related research dealing from:
- biomass resources
- modelling approaches
- technology assessments
- life cycle assessments
- multi critical analysis
- decision support tools
The UFZ is an international working research centre with focus on environmental aspects (water, air, soil, energy, bioeconomy, …) working on technical and political aspects with more than 800 researches. Our working group SABE (sustainable bioeconomy) is part of the UFZ Department Bionenergy.
Under the scope of the bioeconomy, the efficient and sustainable use of biomass resources focuses on interdisciplinary research between agriculture, food and technology for the efficient coupling of biological and chemical synthesis processes for the production of energy and raw materials, with a particular focus on raw materials (e.g. plastics or petroleum substitutes). However, the increasing demands on biomass and land will require appropriate assessments in order to support well informed decision making and planning, both at regional (where biomass resources occur) and national (where major policies are decided), to ensure the most efficient and sustainable use of biomass resources, as well as to promote synergies with other renewable resources.
