In order to explore the high potential of both beach cast seaweed biomass, as well as the exploration of cultivated species, we are looking for german and brazilian partners interested in research partnerships with Brazil in the frame of the Bioeconomy International Calls. Actually, the Companhia das Algas works in partnership with Brazilian universities like USP and IBt and has participated as industry partner in the frame of a Bioeconomy Project (SeaFeed) coordinatet by Fraunhofer IVV with focus on animal nutrition. Furthermore, the company has stablished a close contact with Embrapa, SENAI and Unicamp in order to discuss possible project ideas.
We are highly interested in prospection and applied science projects in order to explore jointly the potential shown by the seaweeds. Specially multitrophic aquaculture systems to produce fish, shrimps and oysters combined with macroalgea are of high interest, as well as the use of macroalgae extracts for functional packaging, material and film applications, cosmetics and bio-fertilizers.
Companhia das Algas is a pioneer brazilian project, with a strong social, economic and environment background. The company owns all licenses from IBAMA (Brazilian Environment Association) for both cultivation and collection of beach cast seaweed biomass in the state of Ceará and is considered in Brazil a pioneer project in this area.
Actually, the core products of the company are a liquid concentrated fertilizer, rich in bioactivie substances and plant phytohormones, to be used in crop production blends and a cosmetic base made out from red seaweeds (Gracilaria sp.).
After 5 years of prospection, about 80 Tons of wet and fresh macroalgae biomass per month was observed at the main 3 collection areas during the winter season. During the summer, almost 200 Tons have been also observed.
