Cooperation with Japan
Fraunhofer IZI-BB has expertise in the field of cell-free protein synthesis (in vitro translation). We apply a variety of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell-free systems, which we prepare in-house, to enable customizable reaction conditions for the production of a variety of proteins, including difficult-to-express proteins. One focus is the screening and engineering of fungal enzymes for application in the production of high-value compounds from organic waste streams.
We are looking for new opportunities to apply our cell-free screening platform, especially in the field of biotransformation and enzymatic biomass valorization.
The Fraunhofer IZI-BB conducts its research with a focus on innovations in the fields of food and environmental analysis, diagnostics, drug development, and process engineering.
The interdepartmental combination of engineering expertise and biomedical and chemistry know-how is what sets the institute apart in the areas of sensor technology, biotechnology production methods, and automation, as well as nano- and microsystems engineering. The resulting research and development offerings are geared, among other things, towards biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies that need components as well as integrated solutions for their product development along their value chain.
