We are looking for a Japanese research partner, ideally already funded or active under the JST GteX program (Field: Biomanufacturing), with deep expertise in metabolic engineering and precision fermentation.
We aim to develop biopolymers from regional biomass by leveraging biorefinery technologies and novel cascade utilization (e.g., grassland or paludiculture).
Our primary focus is the development of high-performance PHBH and PBS compounds, including the additivation and reinforcement with natural fibers and fillers for injection molding and additive manufacturing (FDM).
Biorefinery (DE/JP): Mechanical fractionation of biomass into press juice and fibers.
Precision Fermentation (JP): Using optimized microorganisms to synthesize biopolymers directly from the press juice.
Advanced Compounding (DE): Reinforcing the synthesized biopolymer with natural fibers, fillers and additives to create high-performance compounds for filaments for 3D printing and granules for injection molding.
The 3N Kompetenzzentrum is a German innovation hub for the sustainable bioeconomy and the technical utilization of renewable resources. We bridge the gap between research and industry by developing innovative, circular value chains for bio-based materials.
Our core expertise includes:
Material Development: Advanced compounding of biopolymers with natural fibers and functional additives.
Processing: Optimization of filament extrusion for FDM-based 3D printing and injection molding.
Technology Transfer: Scaling laboratory results to pilot-scale applications and industrial validation.
