We are looking for a Japanese research partner, ideally active under the JST GteX program, with specialized expertise in biopolymer synthesis and enzymatic modification (e.g., using transglutaminase).
The project aims to transform RuBisCO protein fractions from grassland biorefineries into 100% bio-based, chemical-free thermoplastics. Unlike conventional bioplastics, this approach relies on the physical and enzymatic modification of proteins to create thermoplastic sustainable materials for technical applications.
The 3N Kompetenzzentrum is a German innovation hub for the sustainable bioeconomy and the technical utilization of renewable resources. We bridge the gap between research and industry by developing innovative, circular value chains for bio-based materials.
Our core expertise includes:
Material Development: Advanced compounding of biopolymers with natural fibers and functional additives.
Processing: Optimization of filament extrusion for FDM-based 3D printing and injection molding.
Cascade Utilization: Valorization of regional biomass (e.g., grassland protein) through innovative biorefinery concepts.
Technology Transfer: Scaling laboratory results to pilot-scale applications and industrial validation.
